What virtues do you find useful for living a quality life?

One winter in Belgium

Hi world,

Typing away at a remote coffee shop in Seoul, I stumble onto a book title, “Let Virtue Be Your Guide” by Frances F. Denny.

On page 53 a simple excerpt says,
[Be sociable, treat your family politely, and enjoy their company. Don’t talk about yourself too much. Save your money.]

Words fill the brain — classic, etiquette, practical, simple, sounding.
Imagine yourself being sociable, treating your family politely, and enjoying their company, not talking about yourself too much, & saving your money. What is the feeling you get when imagining that you are it? Imagination can do wonders. To dream of the ideal version of yourself is free and freeing. Yet of course with imagination, a practical implementation needs to be applied to materialize its reality.

Virtues. Unseen yet potent beauty, let me list a few virtues I see in the eyes of the beggar on the street.

Virtue is a gesture of appreciation when given the help of a coin or two.
Virtue is a shy smile behind immense appreciation of shown respect.
Virtue is simply speaking as is with compassion straightforwardly and truthfully — I hope you stay warm and healthy sir.

Beauty is appreciating your family, including strangers.
Beauty is sociably enjoying each other’s company, including the poor and the underprivileged.
Beauty is investing in inner beauty for mental well-being.
